The Caves Painctes, Chinon's emblematic site beneath the fortress, inspired François Rabelais to create the Temple de la Dive Bouteille. His father owned a cellar there. Today, they belong to the winegrowers of Chinon, as well as to the Entonneurs Rabelaisiens, France?s second-largest wine brotherhood. Tours depart from: 11am, 3pm, 4:30pm, 6pm
