VILLAGES EN SCENE : MON CÔTÉ MONK – Cie Ostéorock

Amidst the languid atmosphere and buzz of post-war New York clubs – places where Black American musicians found their freedom – one pianist
left his mark on his era by revolutionising jazz with an incomparable style:
Thelonious Monk (1917–1982).

But behind such prolific and brilliant creativity lay a
troubled figure, a ‘madman’ with unpredictable behaviour. He,
who never ceased to proclaim that ‘the loudest sound in the world is
silence’, would eventually retreat into total silence towards the end of his
life.

*My Monk Side* is the story of this unconventional artist, told through words,
drawings and music by a contemporary pianist. Against the backdrop of
this biographical account, the narrator reflects on his own family and
musical history.

By gradually revealing his ‘Monk side’ and his obsession with this
figure, the narrator offers another, more intimate account, delving into the
foundations of his own relationship with music, jazz and artistic creation.
