The Mauges offer some surprising views, sometimes of the Loire, sometimes of the surrounding countryside, sometimes of other rivers.
Here, it’s the Evre and its valley that you can discover from this viewpoint at “La Croix des Martyrs”.
It is the point of reference for a number of steep hiking trails, including the Gallo-Roman Sylvanois trail.
From this cross, set several metres above the river Evre, you can contemplate the scenery before you.
Some will come here to pay their respects, as it was here that the Republicans massacred and drowned several women in the River Evre during the Vendée Wars in 1794.
