Considered by many to be the most beautiful beach in Saint-Nazaire, this vast sandy beach still bears the memory of Monsieur Hulot, the hero of the famous film shot here by Jacques Tati in the early 1950s. Monsieur Hulot's beach has been awarded the Blue Flag.
It is supervised by qualified lifeguards in July and August, from 11.30am to 7pm on weekdays, and from 11am to 7pm at weekends, depending on the tides.
The beach has been awarded the Handiplage label and two tiralos are available for use by the lifeguards. Information and bookings: 02 40 91 78 62.
Dogs (except guide dogs), horses and all other animals are banned from Saint-Nazaire's supervised beaches from 15 June to 15 September. (Authorised the rest of the year).
The beach is now nicknamed "Monsieur Hulot's beach". Since 1999, it has been overlooked by a statue of Monsieur Hulot, created by sculptor Emmanuel Debarre. The statue originally featured a pipe, inseparable from the character of Monsieur Hulot.
