The Boivre marsh, named after an ancient maritime gulf now filled in with alluvial deposits and isolated from the sea by a dune, attracts many birds in all seasons.
It lies between Saint-Brevin-les-Pins and Saint-Père-en-Retz.
In the past, the Boivre was more like a river, and in ancient times Saint-Père even had its own port.
