Journées Européennes du Patrimoine : Film et Conférence sur les vikings à la Micro-Folie

Organised on the initiative of the Ministry of Culture, the 43rd edition of the European Heritage Days will take place this year on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September 2026, with two themes taking centre stage: ‘Photographic Heritage’ and ‘Heritage at Risk: Revive, Resist, Reimagine’.

2.30 pm – 4.15 pm: Screening of the documentary film 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐚 𝐢́ 𝐕𝐢́𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐮, directed by Rémi Ramecourt and attended by the film crew.
Last year, a Viking re-enactment troupe travelled down the Loire and stopped off for a few days on the ‘battle-ready’ island. As well as showcasing their passion and their remarkable re-enactment work, the crew had another aim: to make a documentary film about sailing down the Loire in a drakkar* under period conditions. Come aboard for a journey down the Loire like no other!
* Despite its Scandinavian-sounding name, the word ‘drakkar’ is a 19th-century French invention. It is a neologism used to describe all Viking ships.

4.15 pm – 5.30 pm: Lecture by Yann Le Jeune: a Viking camp in the heart of the Loire (continued)
Geoarchaeologist Yann Le Jeune returns to present the research carried out in 2026. This winter, a stratigraphic study revealed traces and provided a better understanding of the link between the environmental history of the Loire and the possible settlement of the Vikings… so, will there be excavations or not?
