Free tour of the Bourg Dion mill in Saint-Rémy-La Varenne, which has been listed as a historic monument since 1975. It was built in 1862.
It is a pivot-type mill with a millpit, typical of the Anjou region. The mill has retained its hucherolle, its sail supports, its millstones and a large proportion of its mechanical drive components.
It is one of the most imposing mills in Anjou with an above-ground ‘masse’ or ‘cave’. Its structure comprises five vaulted chambers built from local stone and tuffeau. The tuffeau stone residential extension dates from 1873.
