Chinon: a city surrounded by vines

It would be impossible to talk of Chinon without mentioning its famous royal fortress overlooking the valley of the Vienne, but Chinon is also a historic town full of half-timbered buildings and home to a pier where traditional boats take visitors out on excursions. Above all, Chinon is a town of vineyards stretching as far as the eye can see and wine cellars where tourists can taste wine that certainly lives up to the reputation of the local area, which is also famous for being the birthplace of the French Renaissance writer Rabelais.
