The Local History Museum on the Wars of the Vendée is relocating for the summer to the Cathelineau Chapel in Saint Florent-le-Vieil. The exhibition will run from Saturday 4 July to Sunday 30 August 2026, from Wednesday to Sunday, 2.30 pm to 6.30 pm.
This is an opportunity to explore an exhibition dedicated to the Great War of the Vendée from 1793 to 1796. The exhibition begins with a video setting out the context of this great uprising, followed by a presentation of the major Vendée leaders – and in particular Charette, as featured in the film *Vaincre ou mourir* (Conquer or Die), Stofflet, whose true likeness has been reconstructed, and Bonchamps, whose tomb in the abbey church of Saint-Florent-le-Vieil was unveiled by the Duchess of Angoulême in 1823. A recap of this visit and the construction of the column known as the ‘Vendée Column’ is also presented.
At the end of the tour, a small bookshop displays a selection of books and comic books on the Wars of the Vendée.
