CHAPELLE DE ROHARS

Rebuilt several times over the centuries, the chapel, which once stood on the banks of the Loire, is the last remaining trace of the priory that had existed since at least 1330 and was attached to the Abbey of Sainte Marie de Pornic of the Order of Saint Augustine. Built on its medieval foundations, it was rebuilt in 1707, then restored in 1848 by the Legland family, including Jean de Rohars, who is said to have helped more than a thousand Vendée refugees cross the Loire into the region following the Battle of Savenay in 1793.

A former place of worship and respected as such, it no longer serves a religious purpose. It was fully restored in 2011 and now houses a venue dedicated to culture: exhibitions, concerts...

It is open from May to September on Sundays and public holidays.
