For this Historical and Gourmet Walk, organised in partnership with the "Histoire(s) de la Scala" committee, the meeting point is at 10 am in the square in front of the church of Saint-Martin in La Chapelle-Aubry.

The route will take participants to the Château de Barot, a local historical landmark, where the events that took place there during the Vendée Wars will be recounted. The residence of the Boucault de Méliant family at the time, the estate was home to General d'Elbée and the Bishop of Agra. The history of the park, laid out by the famous Angevin botanist André Leroy, also provides an insight into the period of reconstruction that followed the French Revolution.

The walk will continue as far as the Aigrasseau cross, a memorial to the massacre of 31 January 1794. After a gourmet break in the heart of the village, participants will discover the history of La Chapelle-Aubry, a village nestling in a valley shaped over thousands of years. Around the church, the history of the village, its two churches, its Papal Zouaves and the people who have left their mark on local life will be recounted, going back in time to around the year 1000.

This walk is part of an overall programme of 10 Historical and Gourmet Walks in the Mauges. Organised by local associations, they invite you to discover the Vendée Wars and the reconstruction of our villages with the help of passionate historians.
