The ancient fortified town of Châteauceaux was destroyed in 1420 by the Duke of Brittany. At the time, the citadel was 2.5 times the size of the citadel at Carcassonne. The entrance to the citadel was therefore located between these 2 towers. The one on the left is authentic and dates from the 12th century, while the one on the right was restored in the 19th century with decorative battlements and was used as a courtroom and prison for common criminals.
