Louis Pommeraye, the founder of the famous Passage of the same name, was born in Saint-Père-en-Retz on 8 August 1806.
In 1993, to mark the 150th anniversary of the Passage, the commune decided to dedicate a square to the memory of its illustrious representative. In 2023, 3 young artists, Jules, Eden and Étienne from the Beaux-Arts school in Nantes, designed a metal tree that hides elements of the Passage Pommeraye in its foliage.
Why a tree? According to local legend, a parasol pine was planted at La Tiedenais over 200 years ago by the Pommeraye family to mark the birth of Louis.
The second work represents a shop front, such as can be found in the Passage Pommeraye. In this very spot, it recalls the existence of a shop of yesteryear, as well as the architecture of the famous Nantes passage.
Unfortunately, the Tiedenais bicentenary pine fell during storm Gérard in January 2023, so it is no longer possible to see it.
