The word form and the word cheese come from the same etymological family, just as the shapes of cheeses and the recurring forms of minimal art (the circle, the square, the pyramid) are similar. Based on this observation, 12 cheese moulds were made from drawings by Sol Lewitt: 12 Forms Derived from a Cube (1982). “The essential quality of geometric forms is that they are not organic, unlike any other so-called art form. Donald Judd, interview with Lucy Lippard, 1967 Specific Cheeses began with the formal similarity between a Valençay cheese and a work by Sol LeWitt entitled Flat Top Pyramid. Based on this observation, a study was drawn up on the formal similarities between the forms of minimal art and the forms of cheeses: the circle, the square and the pyramid are the identical forms of two worlds that are, on the face of it, very far apart. The Specific Cheeses brotherhood was created in 2012 by Nicolas Boulard. The costumes are made up of 12 felt capes and 12 hats representing the shapes of the cheeses that the 12 sisters and brothers wear during the ceremony. The Grand Master wears a leather jacket in the colours of the brotherhood and leads the ceremony, during which 12 brothers and sisters are appointed. After the induction ceremony, the 12 Specific Cheeses are tasted with the public in attendance. TIME DETAILS : Saturday 27 September 2025 Opening on Saturday at 5pm.
