Saint-Martin-de-la-Place, with its fine residences from different periods (Château de Boumois, Château de la Pourpadière, Manoirs de la Martinière and de Villeneuve), its ports and beaches, is famous for the beauty of its banks of the Loire and offers a magnificent view over the valley and the southern slopes, with the wooded edges of the plateau. Next to the church, labelled a “welcoming church in Anjou”, stands a monument in honour of Admiral Aristide Aubert Dupetit Thouars, who was born at the Château de Boumois in 1760 and died a hero at the Battle of Aboukir in 1798. Classified as a “Station Verte”, Saint-Martin-de-la-Place lies at the crossroads of the Loire and Authion cycle routes.
