After graduating from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Angers with honours, Pauline turned to the world of craft after a six-month stay in Montreal and some experimentation with light. She discovered the world of lampshades and fell under the spell of this little-known craft. She trained with a professional lampshade-maker who holds the Ateliers d'Art de France label, and launched her own brand, Polign, in 2011. She has been continuing the adventure under her own name since 2017.

Pauline's lampshade-making has two facets that she considers to be inherent to her work: craftsmanship and design. The craftsperson's role is to pass on know-how and manufacturing techniques. The role of the designer is to conceive the object as a whole, making aesthetic and responsible choices, which involves the shape of the casings, the choice of materials and the design of graphic motifs.

The luminaires in the Noir & Blanc collection are designed in a contemporary, sober and elegant style. Imbued with poetry and finesse, this emblematic collection from the studio is characterised by the delicate motifs drawn freehand in black ink on each luminaire. Inspired by plants, the paper is adorned with flowers and foliage observed by the designer, or straight from her imagination.
