Saturday 20 September at 3pm: EUROPEAN HERITAGE DAYS 25 CONFERENCE: A VIKING CAMP IN THE HEART OF THE LOIRE by Yann Le Jeune, geoarchaeologist and Teddy Véron, historian. A historical and archaeological investigation has recently been relaunched into a little-known but fascinating episode: the possible installation of a Viking camp in the 9th century at the foot of Saint-Florent-le-Vieil Abbey. Texts, place names and LIDAR images point the way to Île Batailleuse, immediately upstream from Saint-Florent-le-Vieil. At this conference, come and discuss this fascinating investigation, combining science, history and the heritage of the Loire. 24 & 27 September: MICRO-VISIT: VASTE AS THE SKY REVERSED The Micro-Folie invites you to visit the work of Zhu Hong, who is exhibiting at the abbey from 13 September to 2 November 2025! Her meticulous and poetic work echoes works from the Micro-Folie’s digital collection! Wednesday 24 at 3pm and Saturday 27 at 11am. The artist is inspired by water, and uses this element in her drawings and paintings! Her sense of detail and precision come from the many photographs she takes beforehand.
