A native of Nantes who has lived in Machecoul since 2016, Philippe Dauphard has loved drawing since childhood. In secondary school, he illustrated his lessons.
A self-taught amateur painter, he has never taken drawing or painting classes.

In 2021 one of his daughters said to him:
“When are you going to do me a painting seriously?”
He then started with Indian ink combined with gouache or oil on A4 format.
In 2022, he started painting with acrylic on canvas. His favourite theme became painting the most realistic possible landscapes, mainly urban, based on photos taken during his travels.
With each new canvas, he sets himself a challenge (perspective, colours, shadows, reflections, details, etc.) and tries to get as close as possible to reality, even if he sometimes modifies the colours because of the poor lighting at the time.
In 2024 and 2025, he took part in competitions on set themes, and had the pleasure of winning 1st prize.
So the idea came to him to exhibit for the first time, and here in Machecoul.
