It was used to shoe horses and oxen used for skidding wood from the forest, as well as for hauling flat-bottomed boats down the Allier, loaded with stones from the village quarries. Known as a "travail", it consists of a very solid oak frame and a system of fasteners used to hobble the most difficult horses, and to support with belly straps cattle that can?t stand on three legs while being shod.
