To mark the Journées Européennes du Patrimoine 2025, artist Julien Perrier will be installing a monumental work in Chalonnes-sur-Loire as a tribute to the pollarded trees that are so emblematic of the Loire landscape.
These sculptures, combining cast steel for the trunks and glazed ceramic for the branches, reinterpret these unique trees, long shaped by farming practices. They are both places of life for biodiversity and symbols of a changing natural and cultural heritage, threatened by global warming.
The public is invited to come and observe the installation of the work and talk to the artist about his work and techniques. This special moment will provide a sensitive insight into the artistic process and the ‘arts of fire’ (metal and ceramic work) involved in the creation.
📍 The first tree, visible from the church, will act as a visual signal, inviting walkers to head towards the river, where two other sculpted pollarded ash trees will await them – one even offering a low branch to sit on.
