Hunting and wildlife reserve. The Massereau Reserve covers 393 hectares. It includes the Massereau “island”, former arms of the Loire, now partially filled in, and part of the Canal de la Martinière (Canal Maritime de la Basse-Loire). Created in 1973, it was approved as a Game and Wildlife Reserve by the Decree of 23 September 1991. J. Pelatre ONCFS The Migron Reserve: Since 2008, the Massereau Reserve has been extended to the west by the Migron Reserve, built around the old branch of the Migron, between the Maréchale “island” and the Canal, in the commune of Frossay. Nearly 300 hectares of wetlands belonging to the Conservatoire du Littoral are now protected and provide good wintering and breeding conditions for many bird species. Accompanied by the reserves’ curator, free outings are organised to discover the Massereau and Migron Reserves, their history, fauna and flora. Discover the Massereau and Migron wet meadows here
