The Musée d’histoire locale sur les Guerres de Vendée, located at the Ferme des Coteaux in Saint Florent-le-Vieil, will be open for its summer exhibition from Saturday 05 July to Sunday 31 August 2025, from Wednesday to Sunday, 2.30pm to 6.30pm.
The museum will also be open on Sunday 8 June for Scout Painting Day and on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 June for the bicentenary of Bonchamps’ tomb.
This is an opportunity to discover an exhibition devoted to the Great Vendée War from 1793 to 1796. The exhibition is introduced by a video presenting the background to this great uprising, followed by a presentation of the great Vendée leaders, in particular Charette, in the sequel to the film “Vaincre ou mourir” (“Win or Die”), Stofflet, whose real face has been reconstructed, and Bonchamps, whose tomb was inaugurated by the Duchess of Angoulême in the abbey church of Saint-Florent-le-Vieil in 1823. There is also a reminder of this visit and the building of the column known as the “Vendéens” column.
At the end of the tour, a small bookshop displays a selection of books and comics on the Vendée wars.Visiting languages:French
