From living wood to inert wood called heartwood, the centre of the trunk becomes rot-proof. It is this core that carries the tree's memory, its history, its emotions and its deepest wounds, and it is this core that gives the tree its solidity.
Through this sensitive reading, photographer Léo Favreau invites us to look at instant portraits where the memory of an emotion, of a moment in life, returns to the surface.
Each portrait in the DURAMEN series is imbued with a tension that is strong, yet restrained and extremely modest. The emotions are never overplayed. The series is particularly frontal, challenging the viewer.
For this exhibition, Léo Favreau has invited Gwenn, an artist who, after watercolour and coloured pencil, is exploring the world of the cyanotype.
Opening on 8 May from 6pm.
Free admission.
