Visit the parish church of Charcé, established in the 10th century under the patronage of Saint Georges. Discover the history of this church, which, along with the Charcé lands, came under the control of the Abbey of Saint-Florent-lès-Saumur, before reverting to the Chapter of Saint-Pierre d’Angers in 1306. At that time, it was christened “Eglise Saint-Pierre”, the current name replacing that of the original patron saint.
Take a look at the composition of this building, with its single nave and flat apse dating from the 13th century, and its chapel attached to the choir, which the canons added in the 16th century. Look at the moulded rib vault, probably identical to the one that covered the nave and reminiscent of the vault in the church of Saint-Vincent in Brissac. There is another chapel adjoining the north choir, built in 1836 by the commune.
