Founded in 1872, La Cure has been offering fort ball discoveries since 1991. What is boule de fort? The game of boule de fort developed particularly strongly in Anjou in the 19th century, and is still a very much alive tradition in the heart of the Saumur region, which has 140 societies. This game is played with a wooden or plastic ball with an iron rim, asymmetrical with a concave “weak” side and a convex “strong” side, hence its name. The players then roll these characteristic balls along a curved track some twenty metres long and six metres wide, trying to reach the master (cochonnet in pétanque). Visitors are often fascinated by the surprising trajectories followed by the balls. After a demonstration of the game by volunteers from our association, you’ll be invited to come and “push the ball”! There will also be an exhibition of photos showing how to make a wooden “boule de fort” and a “jeu de boule”. Finally, a regional map will help you to locate all the boule de fort games in the region.Spoken languages :French
