Château of Troussay

Château de Troussay, which is still inhabited, was built at the end of the 15th century. The Loire Valley historian and archaeologist Louis de Saussaye inherited it in 1828. A friend of Prosper Mérimée and, like him, a pioneer in heritage conservation, he produced a summary of the architecture of the Loire Valley, creating the smallest of the Loire châteaux. A fine collection of 16th, 17th and 18th century furniture completes the ensemble. The English-style park is adorned with centuries-old trees of various species. A tasting tour of the château’s products is available in the afternoon. Troussay combines the artistic and refined allure of the Loire Châteaux with the rural, family atmosphere of the Sologne of yesteryear.

The English-style park, planted with rare, centuries-old trees and embellished with two 17th-century pavilions, is also listed in the supplementary inventory of historical monuments and is home to a few Ouessan black sheep, amusing rabbis and an aviary of gallinaceous birds.
