Regional Domain of Chaumont-sur-Loire: between art and history
First built in 1000AD and then demolished in the 15th century, the Château of Chaumont-sur-Loire was later raised from the ashes and redesigned in Renaissance style. Today, it offers some of the finest views of the Loire from its position overlooking the river. Initially the property of the D’Amboise family, the Château later passed into the hands of Catherine de’ Medici and then Diane de Poitiers, and its design harmoniously combines elements of the Gothic and Renaissance styles. Today, this historic location promotes art and its gardens, in particular with the International Garden Festival and the Arts and Nature Centre.
