CHÂTEAU DE SURONDE

You have to cross the Loire, pass Rochefort and find Chaume, a small hamlet clinging to the Côteau. The 6 hectares of the estate are planted with vines aged between 15 and 70 years (exclusively Chenin), with a few timid vines of Sauvignon.
In the Middle Ages, the first winegrowers, the monks who cleared the land and created the Appellation, paid rent to the lords who owned the land for "the best quarters of the harvest, hanging on the back of the side facing south". This custom is still in force on the small Quarts de Chaume terroir - just 47 hectares.
