Cultural visits along “A Journey in Nantes”!

From 30 June to 26 August 2018, don’t miss a trip to “A Journey in Nantes”! Want to combine a walk with culture? Nantes invites you to take a “Sidestep” as you follow the green line along a 12-kilometre route to (re)discover emblematic locations in Nantes and its permanent and temporary art works. Looking for inspiration? Take a look at the itinerary!   Start the journey peacefully in the Jardin des Plantes… From the train station, head towards the Jardin des Plantes. This large verdant space will surprise you with its wealth of plants, greenhouses, water features and contemporary works such as Dépodépo by Claude Ponti and Attraction by Johann Le Guillerm.   Bask in the royal lifestyle of days gone by… Go to the Château of the Dukes of Brittany. As well as housing the Museum of the History of Nantes, the château boasts an excellent panoramic view from the top of its ramparts! Take the opportunity to visit the immersive exhibition titled “We call them Vikings”, and the music exhibition titled “Rock!”   Have a drink at one of the highest viewpoints in Nantes… After a discovery-filled morning, have a well-earned drink in Le Nid, the bar at the top of the Tour de Bretagne from where you will enjoy a stunning view overlooking the whole city!   Have lunch in one of the old districts in the town… Enjoy a lunch break in the city centre and admire surprising works of art and decorations, such as “Eloge du Pas de Côté” by Philippe Ramette on Place Bouffay, “Sortie de Fontaine” by Michel Blazy in the centre of Place Royale, the exotic architecture of the La Cigale restaurant, “Inside” by Daniel Firman at Graslin theatre and many more besides…   Admire an exceptional historic passageway…. The unique and elaborate architecture of Passage Pommeraye is a must-see in Nantes, as is “Eloge de la paresse”, one of the works on the Journey by Philippe Ramette.   Discover the Estuary curiosities on the Ile de Nantes… Cross Parking Gloriette and go over Passerelle Victor-Schoelcher. You will arrive on the Ile de Nantes, the city’s creative district. Multiple artworks are located near the architecture school and the Island Machines, including “Air” by Rolf Julius and “Mètre à ruban” by Lilian Bourgeat.   Wonder at the Island Machines The biggest tourist attraction in Nantes! Numerous living machines exist together offering an unforgettable visit: climb to the top of the Grande Eléphant, dream in the fantastical world of Jules Verne at the Carrousel des Monstres Marins or admire the creatures in the Galerie des Machines…   Eat in a unique venue… The Cantine du Voyage proposes a unique menu with local kitchen garden produce. The added bonus? An unobstructed view of Nantes, the Loire and the famous Anneaux by Buren!   Attend a show with the locals… Return to the district around the train station and go to the Lieu Unique. Here, you can enjoy a final drink as you watch a show and admire the fabulous “Manasia” Asian works from the Asian comic book.   Also… Don’t miss out on the start of the festivities on Saturday 30 June during the Nuit du Van event.
