Edmond Dantès, a 19-year-old sailor, arrives in Marseilles to become engaged to the beautiful Catalan girl Mercédès the very next day. Betrayed by jealous “friends”, he is denounced as a Bonapartist conspirator and locked up in a prison in the Château d’If, off the coast of Marseille. After 14 years in prison, he escaped and had only one thing on his mind: revenge.
