Zhu Hong mainly paints and draws. Her work is based on the omnipresence of images. By isolating details and fragments, she questions their perception and meaning. Her research into light and water – two elusive elements in perpetual motion – enables her to explore the relationship between representation, temporality and immateriality. What Zhu Hong represents is fleeting, but paradoxically his works require time and attention to be seen.
The drawings are done in pencil, with small vertical lines that act like the traces of a scansion of time. They are created over a long period of time. The paintings, on the other hand, are produced in a shorter space of time, in a more instinctive way.
For Saint-Florent-le-Vieil Abbey, Zhu Hong has created new works based around water. On the ground floor, her three series, Nuage, Lumière Reflet, Eclat, embody her unique perception of water and light in painting, drawing and even working in the very thickness of paper. His attachment to all the imperceptible or minute variations of these elements and their plastic translations renew our own gaze.Visiting languages:French
