HIDDEN PORTRAITS / PORTRAITS CACHÉS ? BY VOLKER HERMES June 28 to November 2 The exhibition Hidden Portraits / Portraits Cachés presents some thirty works by German photographer and artist Volker Hermes. Using digital photo-montages, the artist revisits historical portraits, incorporating hijacked ornaments inspired by costumes from the 16th to the 19th centuries, which invade the picture. Fashion, with its luxurious fabrics and jewels, plays a key role in her work. These added and recomposed elements, all taken from portrait details, transform the image into a visual fiction, creating an intriguing, offbeat atmosphere.
