The church in Vauchrétien bears witness to the history of its village, as the building has undergone numerous works and restorations over the centuries, which have shaped its current form: the nave dates from the end of the 10th century and the choir from the 12th century. In the 15th century, the south door was added and the openings (doors and façades) were modified during the 15th and 17th centuries. A tombstone has been found on the east side, under which monks from the former monastery are buried. In 1836, the architect Blinière added a neoclassical façade with a large triangular pediment to the west gable, which was in danger of falling into ruin. The narrower, two-bay choir was added at the end of the 12th century.
This church is part of the “Eglises Accueillantes en Anjou” network of churches open to the public. To visit it, ask for the keys at Vauchrétien Town Hall.Spoken languages :French
