Des Dieux et des Hommes

The pieces presented in this program were composed by two musicians of genius: Handel and Bach. They have much in common: both born in eastern Germany in 1685, both organists and voice enthusiasts, they had very different careers. The former crossed Europe from north to south, from Germany to Italy and then on to England, while the latter never left his native country, but filled his music library with all the music published in Europe at the time. His music, whether instrumental or vocal, constantly drew on all forms and expressions, always at the service of affetti and emotions of virtuosity and depth.
