Conférence par les Amis du Vieux Chinon : “Le Trésor de Chinon”

By the Chinon Vienne & Loire Historical Society. In 1882, the yearbook of the Société française de numismatique et d?archéologie revealed the existence of the Trésor de Chinon, consisting of 81 gold coins buried in the 6th century. These were Merovingian coins, or “pseudo-imperial solidi”. Touraine?s archaeologists were stunned to learn of this discovery! What are these coins? What is so special about them? Their value? When, where and even who buried them? And what became of them? Daniel Patarin, a member of the Société française d?étude numismatique et archéologique, will shed new light on this treasure and this little-known episode in the history of Chinon in the High Middle Ages.
