If you’d like to work with leather without sewing, the belt workshop is for you. During this workshop, you’ll discover all the traditional steps involved in making a handmade belt, from cutting to finishing. You’ll leave with your own personalised top-of-the-range belt!
Stages of manufacture :
– Discovering materials and finishes
– Hand cutting with special tools
– Cutting with a punch
– Preparation work
– Assembly
– Fitting accessories
– Finishing work
To begin the workshop, you’ll choose your leather, buckle and finishing touches to personalise your belt. Next, you’ll start by cutting your belt using a strap cutter. Simple and effective, this method is ideal for making unique pieces. You’ll continue by tracing the markings and then using the punches to make the strap, the mortise, the loop and your personalisation (small leather piece). Once you’ve cut the pieces and made the holes, you’ll be able to work on the beautiful finishes that will give all the authenticity and quality of a handcrafted leather belt. You will then be able to discover a number of traditional hand tools, such as the abat carre, which is used to round off the slices, and you will also use a filleting iron to make a fillet close to the edges. To obtain a beautiful edge while preserving the natural appearance of the leather, you will use a colourless wax, which you will delicately apply to the edge of the belt. To complete your finishing touches, you’ll apply a pretty patina using elbow grease and a few trade secrets… To finish off this workshop, you’ll use the hand press to set the rivets on your belt and screw the button to mount the mortise on your strap. And that’s it, your personalised belt is finished.
