Exit – Compagnie Année 1986

In Switzerland, the Exit association has been legally offering assisted suicide to people at the end of their lives since 1982. Volunteers accompany the sick and disabled towards an outcome that they feel is more just. We follow these anti-heroes as they go about their daily lives: meetings, duty rosters, exhaustion, but also beliefs, doubts and hikes. From first contact to death, the carers are confronted with delicate and sometimes improbable situations, which they face with a certain philosophy despite their own limitations. The right to die with dignity is a vast subject, and one that each and every one of us will be confronted with in one way or another at some point in our lives. Inspired by Fernand Melgar’s documentary Exit, Année 1986 succeeds in tackling this issue with humour and humanity.
