In 1839, the abbey church of Saint-Satur became the first building in the Cher region to be classified as a historic monument, at the instigation of Prosper Mérimée.
Most of the present-day church was built in the last decades of the 14th century.
The building is Gothic in style. The beauty of its lines and the boldness of its high vaults bear a strong resemblance to the style of Bourges Cathedral.
