In addition to its gem of a choir, the building has preserved a number of features of local Roman architecture. The council of 1152 which carried out the annulment of the marriage of King Louis VII of France to Eleanor of Aquitaine is just one of the historical events featured in the history of the abbey-church. Highly acclaimed for its acoustics and unique atmosphere, the abbey-church plays host to several musical events each year, including the Festival of Sully and Loiret, one of the biggest classical music events in France.
